Fr Jim Dekker SSS


Fr Jim Dekker SSS celebrated the 60th Anniversary of his religious profession on 28 February 2018 with his his fellow community members at St Peter Julian's in Haymarket, Sydney.

Fr Jim was born in the Netherlands in 1923.  After migrating to Australia in 1954 he entered the novitiate of the Blessed Sacrament Congregation at Bowral, NSW where he made his first profession on 28 February 1958.

Since 1963, Fr Jim served in most of the Congregation’s Australian houses. He willingly accepted demanding responsibilities as provincial, provincial consultor, director of scholastics, novice master, assistant novice master, and as community leader in various houses. In the 1970s and 1980s, he served three terms as provincial leader of the Congregation’s Australian province. 

Now aged 94, Fr Jim has been based at St Peter Julian's, Haymarket since late 1995.   As a priest and leader, he has influenced the lives of many individuals and groups over the years.
